How to make a Pinoy Style Bonsai

Every plant can be turned into bonsai. Put a plant into a confinement pot and voila!, you already have your own bonsai. But of course, it is an art, so you have to be aesthetic enough to make one. It involves patience, dedication and sense of art. If you make one, remember this: With great bonsai, comes great responsibility!

Steps:

  1. Select the plant that you want to turn into your greatest work of art. Bear in mind that every plant has its own characteristics and needs. Old plants tend to be the best candidate. Some of the plants that can be used are Bougainvillea, Yellow Tops, the dreaded Balite, tamarind or anything that you like.
  2. Put your "chosen one" into a confinement pot, yes confinement pot which means that it is a place where you will give extra attention so that it will adjust to its new environment. Its more like of an intensive care unit for your plant. This is where your plant will develop new roots and leaves to survive. You should be aware of what type of soil you have to use that depends on the plant.
  3. In the confinement pot, you can now start to manipulate your plant as long as it has already grown its roots and new leaves.
  4. When you have already reached the point that you are satisfied with your manipulation, you should now start looking for a display pot. A display pot is where you will place your work of art and all its glory to be seen and appreciated by you, of course, and other people. A display pot can be made of wood, ceramic, or clay... or even more expensive than the plant itself, like marble, bronze or silver, and gold. But bear in mind that the display pot should be in accordance to your plant and its aesthetic value.
  5. And lastly, good luck! The trickiest part of having a bonsai is on how you take care of it.
